Wonderful Walks

Created by Helen 3 years ago
I met Geoff around 6/7 years ago when he was volunteering for Kent Wildlife Trust. He was leading general interest walks around various spots on the Swale & Hoo Peninsula. I so enjoyed the first walk I attended, I remember eagerly receiving my KWT list of events and searching through for Geoff’s name and signing up as quickly as possible! The walks Geoff led were so special - not only did we learn about much about birds, flora & fauna, Geoff’s localised knowledge of industry & history was second to none. Then one day, his name no longer appeared in the events programme and I heard (have no recollection from whom) that Geoff was unwell and stepping down from leading walks. So a couple of years passed and I attended a member’s day at the BTO in Thetford. One of the activities was a local walk and to my absolute delight, and by sheer coincidence, Geoff was leading the group I’d been assigned to! I was so pleased to see him and true to form, it was a magical walk. My one and only sighting of a stone curlew - thanks Geoff! I will always cherish very fond memories of Geoff as my very limited interactions with him were so special. A very special man and a true gent.
